Should my 3 wood and 5 wood shaft be the same?

    Hi Mack,

I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve.  In my case I use my 3 wood as a mini driver because I'm looking for extra distance from the fairway with my 3 wood and find it difficult to hit my driver from the fairway when I want to keep a shot low into the wind (which is quite common on my home course)... I use the same quality of Graphite Design Tour AD BB SR and S 1" over standard length in my driver and 3 wood.  On occasion I will use my 3 wood on some tee boxes instead of my driver if it is a very narrow fairway... I also find it easier to draw or fade my 3 wood if that is the type of shot required.  I don't carry a 5 wood but do carry a 4 wood in my bag... I would love to have the same Graphite Design Tour AD BB shaft in my 4 wood but they are just too expensive for this oldduffer to justify so... I have an Aldila Alpha RIP 70R shaft in my 4 wood and Aldila Voodoo RVS8 shafts in my Hybrids.  For my swing speed and angle of attack I have had good success with Aldila RIP and Voodoo shafts in my 4 wood and hybrids... for my swing they are very predictable.  You want a shaft and flex that will allow you to hit the most fairways and give you the trajectory and distance that works best with your swing.  So short answer to your question... Should my 3 wood and 5 wood shaft be the same? Probably best to get fitted and buy what works best for you.

    Hi Mack H,

Our standard lengths are as follows:

    13.5/13- 43"

    19- 42"

Keep in mind, a 5 wood (19) with a 3 wood shaft would play more upright.

    Thanks,

    Chris
