Well, summer is finally here on the west coast!! The sun has been out for several days in a row, the kids are out of school, and golfers are flocking to courses everywhere ... especially to Shaughnessy. The amount of member and guest play has risen greatly in the past couple weeks and we are operating at full capacity nearly every day!
This past week marked the start of volunteer orientations for the more than 1500 volunteers that will descend on our grounds to help with everything from scoring and hole spotting to security and range service. The orientations took place on the nearby UBC campus and they seemed to generate a significant amount of buzz amongst all who were involved. Another source of buzz is the packages of Canadian Open tickets that showed up in the main office this morning. I have to say I was pretty pumped to get my ticket package and hold the tickets in hard form.
It seems that daily we are getting word of players who are committing to come play the event. I am not at liberty to divulge too many names at the present moment, but I can say that if they all follow through on their commitments we will have one of the best fields in many a year at the Canadian Open (FYI- PGA tour players have until the friday before an event to either commit or withdraw from the event without being fined). As you can probably guess, most of the RBC sponsored players will be playing. If you check out the RBC Website website you can get a great idea of some of the headliners. There is an increasingly tantalizing list of players including many Titleist loyalists.....stay tuned for more on this!!!
