For every golf swing the first step is to select a target and make sure your club is aimed in the right direction. On the tee, my routine is to stand directly behind the ball which allows me to get an overall view of the hole and see the obstacles (Photo 1). When addressing the ball, I see too many golfers aim their feet at the target which makes the club aim to the right (for right handed players). Photo 2.

Once you have selected you target, place your feet parallel to the target line. At first this might be difficult to feel so to help you, use a reference on the ground or a club to help you such as in photos 3 and 4.

For your body position, I want you to feel both athletic and fluid. Your feet should be about the width of your shoulders with a little flex in your legs for more power. Photo 5. Your back should be straight with your rear-end sticking out a little. This will free your back and help you to turn your shoulders with ease. Remember I want you to feel athletic as in photos 6-7-8.

With your target selected and your body in the proper position, the key to the swing is to stay balanced. Too many golfers lose their balance during or at the end of their swing. It is important that you focus on staying balanced for every swing. If you have a bad position or your alignment is off, it will be difficult to achieve balance. Always stay solid on your back foot during your backswing and throughout the swing as in photos 9, 10 and 11. Finally the position at the end is as important as the one at address. Make sure you are solid on the front leg facing the target to finish as shown in photo 12.
