QUESTION
Why are the numbers on golf balls red and black?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Back in the days when golf balls were available in a choice of compressions, it was our convention to use red player numbers on the 90 compression versions and black numbers on the 100s. Today, however, the compression of a golf ball is engineered into the product to produce a specific set of playing characteristics. Thus, compression options are no longer offered, so the color of the player number is just an aesthetic decision on our part.
